The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care to employees in diverse industries and settings; consulting with employers, employees, and families; evaluating employee medical records to determine medical problem and type of treatment required to restore an employee to the maximum degree of efficiency; interviewing the patient, examining general condition, personal history, occupational history, and any other data as needed; observing an employee's appearance, behavior, and manner of talking; listening to the heart and lungs; making neurological assessments; pressing patient's neck for lymph nodes; examining abdomen for hernia or tenderness; noting muscle tone and strength; assessing vision as well as color perception.
